Spring cleaning tools materials

In the past, I would have cringed just seeing the words ‘spring clean’ which seem to be everywhere this time of the year. So if this is how you feel, I understand you.

I dislike cleaning but love clean and tidy spaces. This is one reason I was drawn to decluttering.

Less stuff = less cleaning.

I have learned to appreciate cleaning and make it more enjoyable, though. If you’d like to know how I’ll list them at the end of the post.

But first, since I’m not claiming to be an expert in this arena, here are my favorite spring cleaning resources.

Cleaning Resources

  1. Clean My Space

Clean My Space, a YouTube channel by Melissa Maker who according to herself, hates cleaning and because of this fact has found the most effective ways to clean.

Her videos are professional (how do professional cleaners approach cleaning) and entertaining enough to actually want to watch a 10-15 min cleaning video.

She’s my go-to source for all cleaning inspiration and how-to’s.

  1. Martha Steward

It seems if someone can maintain a house properly, it’s Martha. She apparently loves cleaning!

I started reading her books only recently and was taken by all the things they cover which seems to be everything.

Very thorough, tried and true information about how to maintain your home including what to do when spring cleaning.

  1. Marie Kondo

Marie brings a different mood to spring cleaning, or any cleaning, which is almost spiritual.

Her advice elevates cleaning to taking care of your house and belongings because they work so hard for you every day of the year.

Cleaning is a way to show our love and appreciation to all family members and gratitude towards our home and our belongings.

Making Cleaning Enjoyable

Here are some ways I've found to make cleaning more enjoyable and meaningful:

🙏🏼 In your mind, express gratitude for your home. Your home keeps you safe and warm and so much more.

🩷 In your mind, express love towards the people who live there, even if they’re messy.

🧠 Do tasks mindfully with intention, not rushing.

🕯️ Light a candle to do the dishes.

🎶 Listen to music/audiobook/podcast while doing laundry or other tasks.

🧹 Cleaning more frequently will make it easier.

😊 Invest in things that bring you joy so that both the items you’re cleaning, and the tools you use to clean them with, will bring joy.
