One way The Life-Changing Magic Of Tidying Up changed my life was that by having my home in order I could concentrate on other things in life that interest me.
My eyes were opened to the fact that I held the keys to changing my own life.
Thus, whenever I noticed an area in my life that I wished to improve, I would read, listen and watch to learn more. I was empowered to take action.
I still recommend all the resources I've mentioned before.
In addition, below are three additional books that I’ve read since then that are not just good but great and have changed how I see things:
Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones by James Clear
An outstanding book about habits! Easy to understand and implement. Here are some of my favorite quotes from the book:
“Every action you take is a vote for the type of person you wish to become. No single instance will transform your beliefs, but as the votes build up, so does the evidence of your new identity.”
“Your actions reveal how badly you want something. If you keep saying something is a priority but you never act on it, then you don’t really want it. It’s time to have an honest conversation with yourself. Your actions reveal your true motivations.”
“It is easy to get bogged down trying to find the optimal plan for change: the fastest way to lose weight, the best program to build muscle, the perfect idea for a side hustle. We are so focused on figuring out the best approach that we never get around to taking action. As Voltaire once wrote, “The best is the enemy of the good.”
I encourage you to sign up for his excellent weekly newsletter. It is my favorite newsletter: concise with ideas that inspire or teach me something new every week.
We Should All Be Millionaires: A Woman’s Guide to Earning More, Building Wealth and Gaining Economic Power by Rachel Rodgers
I’ll admit, if this book was not recommended to me by a trusted source I would have never picked it up. I found the (main) title off-putting. If you too find the (main) title off-putting it's an indication that you really should read it!
The book completely changed my view about financials and made me realize my own preconceptions around this subject.
The book is motivational, empowering, and funny. I recommend the audio version which is read by the author. She also has a podcast.
101 Essays That Will Change the Way You Think by Brianna Wiest
Though the concepts are not new, the book is jam-packed with ‘good reminders’ for life:
“It’s easier to act your way into a new way of thinking rather than think your way into a new way of acting, so do one little thing today and let the momentum build.”
“Make plans to build the life you want, not because you hate the one you have, but because you’re in love with the person you know you want to become.”
“The universe whispers until it screams, and happy people listen while the call is still quiet.”
The last quote is my favorite!
I hope you will have time to read (or listen!) to books in 2023. Happy reading!
“The more that you read, the more things you will know.
The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”
Dr. Seuss
